Innovation hub The Beacon on the Sint-Pietersvliet in Antwerp will be an additional base for maritime start-up accelerator PortXL. Participating start-ups in the PortXL Antwerp program this year will be granted a place in The Beacon to work from there.
PortXL and The Beacon signed an agreement this week. The purpose of the collaboration is to actively promote each other. As partners, they will approach the port community in tandem to help accelerate innovation within the industry.
‘The Beacon is very pleased to work with PortXL on a joint offering for its community,’ says Wim De Waele, General Manager of The Beacon. ‘The accelerator concept of PortXL is a strong addition to the innovation services portfolio of The Beacon.’
Cees-Willem Koorneef, Director of PortXL Antwerp: ‘We aim to build innovation communities in ports and are pleased to open our global network to The Beacon and its network as well.’
PortXL is the 1st World Port & Maritime Accelerator for innovative start-ups and scale-ups that have the potential to disrupt the port and maritime industry. Since 2018, PortXL has expanded from Rotterdam to Singapore and Antwerp. The PortXL Antwerp program is focused on the Belgian port’s thriving ecosystem.
The Beacon is an Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence community that brings tech entrepreneurs, corporates and researchers together.

The Beacon werkt in tandem met PortXL
Innovatiehub The Beacon aan de Sint-Pietersvliet in Antwerp wordt een additionele uitvalsbasis voor maritieme start-up accelerator PortXL. Deelnemende start-ups aan het programma van PortXL Antwerp dit jaar zullen plek kunnen krijgen in The Beacon om van daaruit te werken.
PortXL en The Beacon tekenden deze week een overeenkomst. Het doel van de samenwerking is elkaar actief te promoten. Als partners zullen zij in tandem de havengemeenschap benaderen om innovatie binnen de industrie te helpen versnellen.
‘The Beacon is erg verheugd om met PortXL samen te werken aan een gezamenlijk aanbod naar de community toe,’ zegt Wim De Waele, general manager van The Beacon. ‘De accelerator van PortXL is een sterke toevoeging aan de portfolio van diensten rond innovatie die The Beacon aanbiedt.’
