Welcome esteemed reader! From January 20th to February 5th we shall be gradually revealing the participants to the PortXL 2020 Rotterdam Selection Days. Each article will feature 7 of these innovative start-ups & scale-ups and what solutions are they bringing to the table. The companies are arranged in no particular order.

Will the industry experts and our corporate partners select them? We will all find out on February 12th – stay tuned!

Remember that if you are part of our ecosystem or wish to be, you can attend the event and contribute in evaluating the start-ups! Get in touch with us via mail and we’ll take care of the rest.

01 – Bionic Technology

Selected for the first ever Golden Ticket (meaning they already have access to the program as they’ve been selected for a pilot project by a partner during the validation phase) by the City of Rotterdam, Bionic Technology is a scale-up hailing from the remote Dutch city of Winschoten in the province of Groningen and in proximity of the German border. Their nanocoating solutions are the most high-quality products in biotechnology and have been carefully developed and produced for the protection of various surfaces. If a picture is worth a 1000 words, how much for a video?

02 – Fishi Robotics

Their website might be a work in progress, but that is the only “fishy” thing about them! The Danish-based start-up has Silicon Valley AI & Robotics experience through their founders, making their modified underwater ROV is ready to rock the boat – or rather inspect the hull of said boat – and can do so semi autonomously. Bonus: it creates 3D visualisation maps to speed up maintenance on vessels.

03 – Oculavis

Speaking of maintenance, this German scale-up is here to transform the way it is done. Backed up with years of experience in the machine construction industry the three founders embarked on this endeavour. Like no other, they understand the diverse requirements and interests of their customers and convert them into solutions with great commitment and passion. Oh, and by deploying smart wearables.

04 – Fuelsave

Another German company is afoot. This teutonic technology start-up is true to its name – its objective is to save fuel. They accomplish that by developing and promoting innovative & efficient solutions that optimize resources, investments & operational profits by significantly reducing energy consumption and emissions emitted and increasing the overall efficiency of the system. Germans and efficiency, name a better duo!

05 – InnoTractor

Unlike the previous one, this company’s name is less straightforward. Much to our disappointment, it is not about innovative tractors. On the other hand, their industrial IoT solutions are amazing for achieving better business insights & actionable data. This is the fundament for further automation & innovation of processes and services. Therefore we forgive this Dutch scale-up for not bringing a tractor along at Selection Days… for now at least.

06 – FluidTech

The Danes with a dream, FluidTech is a start-up born from the vision to provide sustainable power generation from waste energy sources. During the past year they have developed this dream and transformed it into reality, aiming to change the current scenario of low-grade waste heat and to provide products for low power output for certain industries and households connected to a local district heating network. A noble goal for a sustainable cause!

07 – VRT Finland

The Finnish scale-up is the second and last company to have received a golden ticket, given to them by Boskalis, and therefore are already in the program. However, there’s more business to be done for them and the pioneers of 3D surveys and utilisation of 3D data with multibeam sonar, laser and drone inspections will definitely be lively at the Selection Days in explaining how their service offers a combined view of the condition of under and above water structures, in addition to seabed with interpreted 3D data delivered to you online. Boskalis is already on board, will others join them?

Let’s find out together at Selection Days on February 12th!
